Cave guide

General information

Cave tours may only be conducted by persons with appropriate official authorisation. The cave guides appointed by the authority are authorised to conduct cave tours in accordance with the provisions of the Salzburg Caving Law.

Requirements

•    reliability;
•    medical fitness;
•    professional qualifications;
•    possession of a cave guide licence.

Required documents

•    proof of Austrian citizenship or preferential nationality within the meaning of the Law on the Recognition of Vocational Qualifications;
•    criminal record information or comparable proof;
•    official medical certificate or comparable proof from the foreign country of residence;
•    successful completion of the cave guide examination or proof of comparable vocational training and qualifications from a foreign country;
•    appointment as cave guide within the meaning of Section 12 of the Salzburg Caving Law or recognition of the cave guide examination of other federal provinces or foreign states after passing a supplementary official examination.

Section 13 of the Salzburg Caving Law, Provincial Law Gazette (LGBl.) No 63/1985 as amended in LGBl.  No 82/2018 in conjunction with the Salzburg Law on Vocational Qualifications, LGBl.  No 35/2017 as amended in LGBl.  No 98/2020

Means of redress or appeal

Decisions may be appealed. The appeal must be filed in writing within 4 weeks with the authority that issued the decision. The time limit begins with the delivery of the written copy or, in the case of an oral announcement, with the latter.

The appeal must also indicate the decision against which it is directed and include the relevant authority, the basis for asserting unlawfulness, the form of order sought, and the information required in order to assess whether the appeal has been filed in time. If, after the notification or announcement of the decision, the party expressly drops the appeal, the latter is no longer admissible.

Moreover, every decision contains instructions on the right of appeal, with information on the authority with which and the deadline within which the appeal must be filed.
